B100 Dragster
4 January 2005
The Bentz racing team runs the Lucas-Cummins Diesel Dragster—a dragster powered by a twin turbo, 5.9-liter Cummins Diesel engine running B100 biodiesel. The engine is modified and enhanced for drag racing (producing nearly 950 hp vs. the stock 215 hp), but is at base the same platform you get in a Dodge Ram truck.
At the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) finals this year, the Biodiesel dragster ran the quarter-mile in 7.98 seconds, reaching a speed of 167.43 mph—the first diesel dragster ever “in the 7s”.
Scott Bentz is a VP for Cummins’ on-road engine business, and became intrigued by biodiesel after some encounters with Jeff Probst, CEO of Blue Sun Biodiesel (or so the story is written on the website). Probst gave Bentz five gallons of B100 to test, and Bentz liked the results: better starting performance, better acceleration. That it is a less polluting, renewable fuel was likely a secondary consideration.

Sorry to say, but not the first diesel dragster in the 7's. They are actually about a year late. Schieds's diesel dragster is in the mid 7's and has been for almost a year. In fact, the Dr. Performance Pick up truck is in the low 8's.
Need to check your facts.
