New Vitz Rockets Off Showroom Floors
2 March 2005
Kyodo. Toyota Motor said that orders for the completely remodeled Vitz compact car (earlier post) totaled 31,000 units in the first one month since its launch Feb. 1. The original monthly target was 10,000 units.
The new Vitz models offer 1.0-liter, 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter engines with VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing–intelligent) and continuously variable transmissions to provide higher performance while maintaining low fuel consumption.
Toyota is also implementing its stop-start system—Intelligent Idling Stop System—in the redesigned Vitz.
The automaker said it is the first time it has received over 30,000 units of orders for one model in the first one month after its launch since it introduced the Wish minivan in January 2003.

Sweet. I hope that this success makes Toyota bring that Vitz technology into the Echo Hatcback, a car that is very popular here in Canada and looks almost exactly like the Vitz.
