Oxford Council Picks Prius Over BMW 5-Series

Carpages in the UK reports that the Oxford City Council has purchased a Toyota Prius as its official mayoral car. The authority was set to purchase a BMW 5 Series, but scrapped the plan when it realised the environmental benefits offered by Prius, the 2005 European Car of the Year.

Officials and highly visible people do have an influence. I suspect that a part of big dark SUVs popularity comes from them being used by FBI agents in all movies.
