Greenville Public Schools Switch Bus Fleet to B20

19 September 2005

Daily News. The Greenville, Michigan, school district has switched its school bus fleet to a B20 biodiesel blend. The schools use some 75,000 to 80,000 gallons of fuel annually.

Joe Knight, transportation director of the district, said the switch is for environmental, not economic reasons. “We should be doing this. It’s just the right thing to do.”

Petersen Oil & Propane in Greenville is supplying the biodiesel.

Curious about more details. Cost, Pros and Cons. What is involved in the conversion. What is the cost? If my math is correct this means the school district will use about 8,000 gallons of Biodieslel a year.

Anyone know anymore details?

Nothing is involved in the conversion, aside from sourcing and pumping the B20. Cost, according to the article, is a wash. Basically equivalent.

Thanks,
I'll do a little research on it. Just to find out if it is something that I should contact my local representatives about. Sounds promising.

Hello.

I also need some info on the cost of bio-diesel mixing, etc.

Are there any success stories of the public transportation fleet being run on bio-diesel and the associated cost savings? If you know of any study comparing diesel and bio-diesel prices, I would like to know about it.

Thanks

The website for the National Biodiesel Board has all sorts of success stories.
Diesel and biodiesel (BD) prices have been bouncing all over the price scale, but there is a fuel blender's tax credit that possibly works to lower the price of BD. Some locations are seeing B100 cheaper than petro.
