Porsche Green Flags the Cayenne Hybrid
13 September 2005
As expected, Porsche announced today at the Frankfurt IAA that it will develop a Cayenne SUV hybrid based on the Volkswagen/Audi hybrid drive.
Audi yesterday revealed a Q7 hybrid prototype that gives a pretty good indication of the direction of the powertrain development. (Earlier post.)
The Porsche statement was fuzzy on timing, declaring that it would bring out this fourth variant of the Cayenne by the end of the decade.
As with the Audi Q7, the hybrid Cayenne will be able to run in all-electric mode at speeds up to 30 km/h, albeit for very short distances. Porsche estimates that the hybrid drive will reduce fuel consumption by 15%.
