Westport Innovations Partners with Chinese Diesel Manufacturer on Gaseous-fueled Engines

14 September 2005

Westport Innovations has signed a Letter of Intent with Weichai Power Co. Ltd. to cooperate on the development, marketing, and sales of CNG, LNG and hydrogen engines and vehicles for the Chinese market.

Weichai is one of China’s largest manufacturers of internal combustion engines with more than 70% share in both the heavy-duty vehicle and construction machine markets.

Weichai has 200 models of advanced diesel engine products, which are widely used in heavy-duty trucks, large buses, construction machinery, marine vessels, and power generation.

In 2004, Weichai sold 134,464 engines and posted revenue of over RmB 6.2 Billion (US$766 million).

China has become the world’s largest heavy- and medium-duty truck market, even surpassing the US.
