CalCars Awarded Grant to Support Plug-in Promotion
18 October 2005
The California Cars Initiative (CalCars.org), a non-profit organization focused on the development and promotion of plug-in hybrids, has received a grant from the Energy Foundation to participate in public events to showcase plug-in hybrid cars and educate audiences about the technology and its benefits.
The Energy Foundation is a consortium of the Hewlett, MacArthur, McKnight, Mertz Gilmore and Packard Foundations, formed to act jointly to fund ambitious projects with a global scope.
The Energy Foundation has sponsored NRDC’s Biofuels study, the National Commission on Energy Policy, and a broad program in China.
CalCars, which developed a prototype plug-in Prius (Prius+) is working with partners to build plug-in hybrids, in cooperation with an as-yet unnamed automaker, to accelerate the adoption of the plug-in approach.

Thanks for the writeup...as our full announcement (linked above at "received") clarifies, our GOAL is to work with an auto-maker. We're getting closer, but we do not yet have any partnership. (As you can see, we don't go in for hype.)
And to clarify in addition -- while we're immensely grateful for the Energy Foundation grant, it's a relatively modest grant for education. It doesn't come close to what we need to take advantage of the enormous opportunities we have in the coming weeks and months. So we're spending lots of our time trying to get tax-deductible contributions to enable us to meet our goals.
