NYSERDA Seeking Clean-Diesel and Environmental Projects to Fund
8 October 2005
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has announced a $1,300,000 solicitation, Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 944, seeking proposals to support the development, demonstration, and commercialization of innovative, energy-efficient, clean diesel and environmental technologies.
The state research organization, established in 1975 as a public benefit corporation by the New York State Legislature, is seeking two categories of work: Clean Diesel Technology Development and Environmental Product and Process Technology Development.
NYSERDA will consider four types of projects:
Environmental Testing & Technology Verification of commercial products or processes (manufactured in New York) to enhance market acceptance through independent testing and evaluation. NYSERDA’s share of funding for any project of this type will be limited to a maximum of $100,000.
Full-Scale Prototype research, development, demonstration, and commercialization efforts that are expected at a minimum to develop a functional full-scale prototype within 36 months. Activities can include full-scale prototype performance testing; field demonstrations; manufacturability analysis; continued commercial design development; certification; development of production system; and development of commercialization strategies. NYSERDA’s share of funding for any project of this type will be limited to a maximum of $250,000.
Bench-scale/Early Development product and process development, which may include activities such as: proof-of-concept investigations and bench-scale prototype testing efforts that are crucial to the development of a marketable system, process or product, but are not expected to result in a fully functional working prototype within 36 months. NYSERDA’s share of funding for any project of this type will be limited to a maximum of $100,000.
Feasibility Studies, including, but not limited to, preliminary studies such as conceptual design, technology and market assessments, and similar early-stage studies that are necessary precursors to ultimate product development and commercialization. NYSERDA’s share of funding for any project of this type will be limited to a maximum of $50,000.
Proposals must:
Address energy- and environment-related challenges in New York State.
Provide quantifiable energy, environmental, and economic benefits in New York State.
Emphasize development of marketable products rather than basic research.
Provide a summary discussion of the commercialization path appropriate to the stage of development of the proposed technology.
Provide cost-sharing by the proposer or third parties in the form of cash or in-kind labor, materials, equipment, facilities, and other resources, and equal to at least 50% of the total project cost.
