Chrysler Introduces Second BLUETEC Concept: Jeep Trailhawk

8 January 2007

Jeep Trailhawk BLUETEC concept.

The Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler introduced the Jeep Trailhawk concept vehicle at the North American International Autoshow. This is Chrysler’s second BLUETEC concept vehicle, following the announcement of the Jeep Grand Cherokee BLUETEC concept last year. (Earlier post.)

BLUETEC describes a modular emissions aftertreatment system currently designed to enable vehicles to meet 50-state requirements in the US: the EPA Tier 2 Bin 5 / CA LEV II standards, the most stringent in the world. Originally used by DaimlerChrysler to describe its aftertreatment system, the BLUETEC term is now being adopted by Volkswagen and Audi as well to describe their clean diesel efforts. (Earlier post.)

MercedesBenz, Audi and Volkswagen all have BLUETEC products or concepts on display at the auto show. (Earlier post.)

The Jeep Trailhawk concept is built off the new Wrangler platform, and features a 3.0-liter BLUETEC CRD engine that develops 215 hp (160 kW) and 367 lb-ft (498 Nm) of torque. The engine is mated with a five-speed automatic transmission.

The second is the perfect commercial, because it combines all the elements for a great ad: a catchy tune, humor, emotion and cute animals: it’ s“ the new all jeep liberty” Jeep Commercial. Again, the priceless look is the driver’ s look as the wolf swallows the birds:
