DOE to Publish PHEV Research Roadmap Soon
7 February 2007
The Department of Energy will soon publish its research roadmap for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), according to Don Hillebrand, section leader of the Vehicle Systems Section of Argonne National Lab’s Center for Transportation Research.
The current draft of the document, which is one result of a process that began last May with the convening of 120 experts by the DOE, is currently out for limited review.
Speaking at the SAE HEV Technology Symposium today, Hillebrand provided a rapid overview of the major areas on which government research into PHEVs is currently focused—lithium ion batteries; power electronics and electric machines (PEEM); vehicle efficiency technologies; and grid interaction—over near-term, medium-term and long-term timeframes.
