Toyota to Build Small Car Plant in India

Nikkei. Toyota Motor Corp. plans to construct a small-car assembly plant in southern India by 2010, its second Indian manufacturing facility.

Toyota’s current market share in India is about 4%. The new plant will initially produce 100,000 entry-level family cars a year, doubling the company’s output capacity in India.

India’s passenger car sales are expected by some to increase to about 2 million units in by fiscal 2010, up from about 1.4 million units in fiscal 2006.
