Mitsui Engineering to Launch Cellulosic Ethanol Trials

27 March 2007

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. will launch field trials of cellulosic ethanol in a joint project with Okayama Prefecture in April.

The partners will evaluate different feedstocks—rice straw and hulls, sorghum, and corn stover—to determine which crops are most suitable for efficient and profitable ethanol production.

Separately, Mitsui Engineering plans to start field trials for producing cellulosic ethanol from pine scrap in the city of Maniwa.
