GM To Introduce 3rd Small Car in India
12 June 2007
Times of India. General Motors India is planning to introduce a third small car in 2008, following the hatchback Aveo U-VA launched in 2006 and the Chevrolet Spark launched in 2007.
According to the Times of India, the new car will be positioned between the mini-car Spark and the premium hatchback Aveo U-VA.
The small car segment in India is expected to grow 12% to more than 880,000 units (8.8 lakh) in 2007-08, compared to the 780,000 units (7.8 lakh) sold in 2006-07.
General Motors’ presence in India is incomplete without a strong presence in the small cars category that rules a mass market in the Indian automobile industry.
—Ankush Arora, V-P, GM India
GM plans to increase its market share in India from 2-3% now to 10% by 2010.
