Florida to Adopt California Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Regs
12 July 2007
South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Florida Governor Charlie Crist reportedly will sign three executive orders on Friday that will include mandating the adoption of California’s motor vehicle standards for greenhouse gases as soon as they receive federal approval and also to require GHG emissions controls on electric utilities by 2017.
Crist is targeting a reduction in greenhouse gases from all sources to be lowered to 1990 levels by 2025. By 2050, current levels would be slashed by 80%. More than 70% of Florida’s energy is generated by fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas and petroleum, and Crist wants them replaced by renewable energy sources.
Friday is the second and final day of the Serve to Preserve Florida Summit on Global Change in Miami. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a keynote speaker at the Miami summit.
