Germany to Increase Biofuel Blending Requirement to 10%

16 July 2007

The German government will increase the mandatory blending requirement of biofuels in gasoline and diesel to 10%, up from the current 5%.

There is as yet no announced timeline for the implementation of the new rules.

The Finance Ministry (Bundesministeriums der Finanzen) is preparing a report due this fall on the market situation for biofuels in the country. Small and mid-size biodiesel producers say their sales have decreased since Germany began taxing the fuel.
