California ARB to Postpone Consideration of ZEV Amendments til 2008

26 September 2007

The California Air Resources Board is postponing consideration of amendments to the Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) regulation (earlier post) to the 28-29 February 2008 Board hearing.

The staff of the Air Resources Board (ARB or Board) plans to take additional time to develop proposed amendments to the ZEV regulation. Staff originally committed to bring the amendments to the Board by the end of 2007. (Earlier post.)

The ARB will post a “Notice of Public Hearing to Consider Adoption of the 2008 Proposed Amendments to the California Zero Emission Vehicle Program Regulations” to the Zero Emission Vehicle Program web page once the item has been formally scheduled.

More stalling and dealy in getting rationanl.

The CARBites want their Fuel Cell Vehicles abd refuse to budge in the stupid requirements that say they must be built in tensd of thousands quantities. Other ZEV vehicles like BEVs and HEVs don't count for much, and PHEVS with so much promise are still being treated as lepers/pariahs and undesired. PhPHEVs will not meet the CAERBite idiots desire for a set number of "gold" FCEVs.

Wah wah wah!!, the little children are stomping their feet, holding their breath till turning Blue, and throwing a temper tantrum.

They want their FCEVs becausue they think they are NEATO! Hang the cost or practicality! CCARBites DON't want BEVS or PHEVS or HEVs, never mind efficient lean diesels or clean ICEs. They can't seem to get anyone to really build or buy their keano ideaof neighborhood golf carts either.

The Govenator ought to thank them all; send them home; and abolish CARB. It's time has come and gone.

The stalling really is aggravating.

My EV has been on the road since April and has over 1600 trouble free miles on it now. www.zevutah.com To bad that CARB did not stick with the original ZEV mandate they had in the 90’s.

We would all be a lot better off today. By the way my ZEV is fueled by solar power, so don’t bother telling me how dirty Coal is. I know.

Maybe someday we all will be able to buy an EV right off the showroom floor. For now I will keep on building conversions.

EL Ninja on the road today.
VW Golf EV under construction.

Nice bike project. I agree that the ZEV changes to accommodate the auto industry may have been a mistake. It is like the saying goes "no good deed goes unpunished". 1 in 10 vehicles being EV in LA would definitely help with air quality and oil consumption. Maybe some day we will get there, but not very soon.
