JOGMEC and PTT Thailand to Conduct GTL Feasibility Study

4 September 2007

Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) in Thailand will conduct a feasibility study commercializing a Gas-to-Liquids project using PTT natural gas resources.

The process technology to be used is being developed under the joint contract between JOGMEC and “Nippon GTL Technology Research Association”. The “Nippon GTL Technology Research Association” was jointly established by the following six Japanese private firms on October 25, 2006: Inpex Corporation, Nippon Oil, Japan Petroleum Exploration Co, Cosmo Oil, Nippon Steel Engineering and Chiyoda Corporation. (Earlier post.)

The process is being developed to work well natural gas feedstock containing higher concentrations of CO2. Many gas fields—such as those in Southeast Asia—are rich in CO2 and therefore difficult to develop commercially. The JOGMEC-GTL process is thus being targeted at such fields that would otherwise prove uneconomical to produce.
