Chrysler Previews 3 Electric-Drive Vehicles for NAIAS 2008
20 November 2007
Detroit News. Chrysler previewed three electric-drive concept vehicles it will introduce this coming January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The three concepts all use Li-ion battery packs.
The Dodge ZEO concept is an electric-only, plug-in vehicle powered by a 200 kW electric motor, and with a range of 250 miles. The Chrysler ecoVoyager is a fuel cell-hybrid, with the fuel cell extending the range of the electric powertrain. And the Jeep Renegade concept is an extended range electric vehicle using a small diesel as the range extender.

They did launch their ENVI division a few months back. Perhaps these concepts are influences from that. I like that each model is reprentitive of each division. Between these 3 models, they cover a very braod audience in terms of use (both actual and implied). Hopefully we'll hear more in January.

I think Chrysler may be serious about this, being a privately owned company gives them a bit a leeway to take risk and move quickly. We shall see I suppose.

It has only been a short while since they parted with Daimler, I would imagine that these were in the works well before the split.
Battery technology has advanced rapidly in recent years and I would think all automakers would be looking at these kinds of products.

I have to wonder if A) they are serious about building electric cars, and B) if they are serious, how far behind everyone else are they?
