Fiat Shows 500 With Stop-Start System
7 March 2008
At the Geneva Motor Show, Fiat introduced a concept version of its 500—the 500 Aria—that adds a stop-start system to a 500 model equipped with 1.3L Multijet diesel and robotic Dualogic transmission. Fiat plans to apply the stop-start system across its range, beginning with the 500.

The microhybrid system delivers fuel savings of up to 10% in the urban cycle, according to Fiat, and the 500 Aria has CO2 emissions of 98 g/km.
Fiat also reduced the weight of some vehicle components, and added electric auxiliary systems. Inside, the Aria features recycled materials such as a floor made from old tires, seats from recycled and re-woven leather, and other recycled and organic fabrics.

I thought the Fiat 500 Aria used the new camless petrol engine!

There was a reason that the VW beetle became a well liked car in the U.S. It was cheap, dependable, good on gas and homely/cute. Lots of people have fond memories of owning one and they became the practical chic ride of their time. There is no reason that same situation can not happen again.
