EEEI and Enertek Introduce Gen-A-Sys APU for Trucking Industry

3 April 2008

Electro Energy Inc. (EEEI) and Enertek Corporation have introduced their jointly developed auxiliary power unit (APU) Gen-A-Sys anti-idling technology for the trucking industry.

The system uses EEEI’s bi-polar NiMH battery packs to scale from 3 kWh to 12 kWh of power, based on application need (e.g., day cab vs. overnight). The smaller daycab solution utilizes only batteries for electrical power. The larger hybrid battery-diesel generator solution provides auxiliary power for longer durations or heavier loads.

The Gen-a-Sys system provides continuous electric power of up to 5 kW of electricity with the APU engine running and 3 kW when the APU engine is off. The driver activates the system remotely by a push of a button mounted next to the steering wheel.

The system automatically monitors the batteries’ charge and when the batteries’ charge is low, the APU small engine automatically turns on and recharges the batteries using an optimum charging methodology. As soon as the batteries are charged, the APU engine automatically turns off and the system seamlessly returns to engine-off mode.

Bigger and better developments are expected from EEI.
What about the "Nanosafe Bipolar (Altairnano/Electro Energy JV)?... Nano bipolar wafer design batteries and the ready 18650 format will soon place this small company in the american Axis of EV alongside Altairnano and A123.imo

EEEI has to compete with FireFly Energy.

FireFly Energy claims to have a competive advantage in pricing for the trucking market.

FireFly's roots also come from heavy equipment as it started at Catapiliar.

I think that any way an independent trucker can save money on fuel will get attention in our present situation. I do not know the mileage of a big rig long haul truck, but fuel costs are probably a major concern for them.
