QuantumSphere Acquires Energetics Incorporates to Spur Li-Ion and Fuel Cell Work

24 June 2008

QuantumSphere, Inc., a manufacturer of advanced catalyst materials, high performance electrode devices, and related technologies and systems, has acquired Energetics Incorporated to advance research and development of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, fuel cells, hydrogen production, and bio fuel applications.

Founded in 2001, Energetics Incorporated has focused on the areas of next-generation lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells for portable power, hydrogen and syngas production from biomass, and hydrogen purification and reforming technologies. The company’s founder and chief executive, Subramanian Iyer, will serve as Principal Technologist for QuantumSphere.

Iyer’s research has focused on alkaline polymeric membrane fuel cells, regenerative fuel cells and high-temperature fuel cells for internally-reformed hydrocarbons, in addition to rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

QuantumSphere has applied its advanced catalyst materials and high rate electrode designs to increase performance in disposable batteries by more than 320% and for cleaner, more efficient production of hydrogen from electrolysis. The company’s Nano NiFe electrodes increase hydrogen gas output in electrolysis systems by 300% at 85% efficiency. (Earlier post.)

Hmmm. I've been waiting to hear whether QuantumSphere
is the real deal, or some scam; then they disappeared
from the news for several months after announcing
their new electrode for hydrogen electrolysis --- now
a crossover to (my word) Lithion tech? Are they a
real player, or playing? I hope they're legit, but
I never hear anything from an independent source; just their own press releases.

I've been watching for QSphere for some time. It's difficult to scam partners and investors, a good board of directors and writers at EE times and CNET.
They actually sell the products highlighted on their website. Most nano techs have raised 10's of millions, have not delievered on promises, and many of those CEOs are gone. These guys may be the surprise underdog. MH
