Damon Hill to Drive Tesla Roadster in Capital Arrive ‘N’ Drive 2008

Damon Hill, 1996 Formula One World Champion, will drive the Tesla Roadster in the GreenFleet Capital Arrive ‘N’ Drive 08 event, which will start on London’s Horse Guards Parade on 31 July 2008. The challenge aims to promote the latest innovations to reduce emissions and improve air quality in the British capital.
The Tesla Roadster is among 20 public and private sector vehicles taking part, and Damon Hill will lead the competitors as they drive the 33 mile-course, demonstrating the use of electric power as a viable alternative to conventional fuel sources. By 2020, Prime Minster Gordon Brown would like all new cars sold in Britain to be electric or hybrid, producing no more than 100g/CO2 per kilometer.
For the challenge, the sportscar will be fitted with a tracking device, which will enable spectators to monitor the progress of the Tesla Roadster as it navigates its way around London.
It is a huge privilege for Damon Hill to present the Tesla Roadster to car enthusiasts on the capital’s streets. This will be a perfect opportunity for people to witness high performance and fun motoring without the need to compromise the environment.

Production of the Roadster has started in Norfolk, UK, and the first models have been delivered to customers in the USA. A total of 250 fully-loaded European-specification Limited Signature Edition Tesla Roadsters are now on sale.
Hill is currently President of the British Racing Drivers’ Club.

side bet ... who thinks a really cute film star or model will be riding with him? Or will it be his wife Georgie who is really hot (not quite as hot as the car, but hot).

Well, I sat in a Tesla Roadster today, and I've got to say that now I really, really want one, I think they will and are succeeding, and things are looking up on the EV front!

I appreciate all the hype Tesla's building around itself and electric cars in general, but is there a store somewhere that I can visit and sit in one?
I can't drop $100,000 on a car, but still, I'd like to see some happy person drive by me one on the highway in one of these things. If they screw up before a major manufacturer copies and produces their idea, then all the hype that's gone into this thing will harm the EV as a concept.
