Ford Previews the New Ka

1 August 2008

Ford previewed the new Ka city car, which it will introduce at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October.

Ka
The new Ka.

The Ka, originally introduced 12 years ago, received an update in MY 2003 with the introduction of two new model variants, the Streetka and the Sportka. Fuel consumption ranged from 5.9 L/100km (40 mpg US) to 6.5 L/100km (36 mpg US) with a 1.3L Duratec gasoline engine.

To date, Ka production has exceeded 1.4 million units.

Further information on the new Ford Ka range will be released in time for the Paris Motor Show—the venue for the original Ka introduction in 1996.

It seems that the engines available for this KA are:
63 HP 1,2 litre, gasoline
100 HP 1,4 litre, gasoline
75 HP 1,3 litre, Multijet diesel
and there are rumors of a gasoline 1,4 litre turbocharged with 150 HP

Has Ford noticed small fuel efficient cars are selling, while big guzzlers are not?

Who'd a thunkit?

(And where were they for the past 12 years?)

Ford has been selling small fuel-efficient cars in Europe for longer than 12 years. seems like there is not enough communication between the different business units.

unfortunately, there a day late and a dollar shy.
Instead of the paris auto show it should be in FOrd dealerships right this minute.
Depending upon how it compares to the Honday FIt, i might consider it.

Based on information provided by Ford recently on its reorgnization, that pretty much confirms the US market will get a variant of the new Ford Ka by 2010, most likely the 1.4-liter 100 bhp gasoine engine model and possibly the 1.3-liter 75 bhp turbodiesel model, with the US models likely to get the new Powershift six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Ford has been selling small fuel-efficient cars in Europe for longer than 12 years. Do you really think the Ford brass in the US did not know the Ka existed?
They didn't offer them in the US because they either couldn't compete cost wise and/or they would not sell. And don't tell me they did not want to sell small cars - they sold them in Europe for 12 years.
One additional problem was the diesel variant (in addition to the two gas variants, the Streetka and the Sportka.
It's called the Kaughka, and will not meet US pollution standards.

Previous Ka was smaller than Fiesta, probably the new one too.
So I think it's much more likely Ford will bring Fiesta to North America, and not Ka (maybe Ka later).
Original Ka was sort of ugly duckling, the new one looks much better.

MG
The new Ka looks as small as the previous one.
But, for couples w/out children or single persons is fine.
If the smart fortwo is already on sale in USA, I think Ford USA should consider selling this Ka soon in USA.

I am interested in the Streetka convertible, and also the ka. Are these being considered for the US market, if so how soon?
