Nordic Mining and StatoilHydro Partner on Technology for CO2 Capture in Minerals
1 September 2008
Nordic Mining and StatoilHydro have entered into a cooperation agreement to develop new technology to capture CO2 in minerals.
The agreement comprises a joint program for development and testing of the use of CO2 in processing of various minerals. New commercial mineral products may emerge from the technology development.
StatoilHydro and Nordic Mining will jointly explore possibilities, conduct laboratory tests, and design a pilot plant which could lead to further industrial activity. Initially, the scope of work includes testing and development based on Nordic Mining’s anorthosite deposit in Gudvangen in the Sogn and Fjordane county. Further, the companies will explore possibilities of CO2 capture utilizing eclogite from the Engebøfjellet rutile deposit, also in Sogn and Fjordane.
Recent development reveals great potential in utilizing CO2 as an active ingredient in mineral processing. This creates exciting opportunities for Norway with substantial mineral resources and CO2 available.
