Report: Nissan Diesel and Volvo To Develop Low-Emission Truck for Japan
15 September 2008
The Nikkei reports that Nissan Diesel Motor Co. and parent AB Volvo will partner on a cleaner-emission truck for introduction in Japan as early as next year.
Nissan Diesel currently buys truck engines from Hino Motors Ltd., but will wind up that contract as it makes the switch to Volvo engines.
New regulations on nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions will take effect next year in Japan and similar measures will be implemented in Europe and the US. The new truck will be a 4-ton-class midsize model equipped with an eco-friendly engine developed by Volvo.
Nissan Diesel became a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2007. Development of the truck is their first full-scale joint project.
