UAE Investors Back Emirates Biodiesel Plant
1 September 2008
Emirates Business. Alf Yad, a Dubai-based venture capital fund, is taking a majority position in Emirates Biodiesel (EmBio), a startup targeting the initial production of 3 million gallons of biodiesel per year, using inedible oils as feedstock.
EmBio was founded by Karim Aly and Wadah Abusin, two young Arab entrepreneurs who left their private equity and investment banking careers to create Ecobility Energy Solutions, the brain behind EmBio.
The biodiesel plant, currently being built in Al Ain Industrial Area, is due to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2009. The start-up production is also set to begin in the same period.
The per capita carbon footprint of the UAE is among the highest in the world, according to the Ecobility Founders.

Congratulation to EmBio founders and wish them great success. Welcome to the Industry of BIOFUEL. There is much margin in UAE for the promotion of JATROPHA as much land is available. UAE government should support this project by distributing available land for the purpose of Jatropha plantation. I can offer joint venture to Arab Brothers and can supply seedlings from PAKISTAN. I am myself interested in investment into jatropha plantation in UAE.
