Sturman Announces New Digital Hydraulic Injector

Sturman Industries announced the successful development of its digital hydraulic injector (DH-1), earlier called the Environmental Injector (earlier post). The DH-1 is fed by low pressure (4 bar) fuel and <300 bar hydraulic fluid rather than high pressure fuel, yet can deliver injections at pressures of 3,000+ bar.

The DH-1 acts as its own high pressure fuel pump, intensifying the pressure of the hydraulic fluid to provide high pressure fuel in the bottom of the injector when the intensifier control valve is actuated.
Sturman describes the application of such injectors in a common rail system as “distributed rail” high pressure fuel injection.
In addition to the combustion and emissions benefits of the higher injection pressures and reduced parasitic losses attendant to the system, the new injectors can reduce the overall cost of the system by replacing a high pressure fuel pump with a low-medium pressure hydraulic pump and a low pressure fuel pump. Safety is also increased with the elimination of the high pressure fuel rail and supply lines.

This is a diesel injector.
Sounds like a whole new format suitable for retro, engine management.
Hope its reliable and not too exe.
