Coulomb Technologies Expands US Reseller Program for EV Infrastructure

1 December 2008

Coulomb Technologies has expanded its reseller program to 28 US states. Resellers throughout the United States are tapped with building the infrastructure rollout for extended range electric vehicles (EREV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and all battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

Coulomb Technologies sells, installs, and services the Smartlet Networked Charging Station product line through exclusive Regional Distributors. (Earlier post.) Regional Distributors are responsible for identifying host parking property owners within their respective regions to ensure that plug-in vehicles will have charging infrastructure in public access areas. The Regional Distributor is authorized to engage with second tier resellers, installers, and maintenance companies to ensure coverage of their entire region.

Coulomb products include networked public chargers in a wide range of powers and sizes that serve both high-end utility and consumer needs (110V 15A to 220V 80A AC charging to 120kW DC charging).

Sounds good. This is just one of many new areas of new-energy job opportunity. This program sounds more practical than the Better Place concept with its battery replacement component.

Around 2/3rds of journeys are less than 30 miles, electric vehicles can already do this. For the price of one years worth of commuting petrol you can buy an electric scooter which will do 50-80 miles for a few pence per day. After 2 years you have saved enough to buy some solar panels to charge it from your roof. An electric scooter will do about 10 miles per kWh as opposed to an electric car doing about 3.

They could also be charged on board electric trains from the overhead rails with a ride on / ride off system.

Ride the scooter to the nearest rail station, drive on and plug in. Enjoy a meal on the train as your bike charges and you travel most of the miles of your journey. Drive off the train at your destination with a fully charged vehicle. Best of both worlds.
