Hillsboro, Oregon to Install 16 Coulomb Charging Stations
1 July 2009
The City of Hillsboro, Oregon plans to deploy 16 Coulomb Technologies ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations for plug-in and electric vehicles. The charging stations will be installed in downtown Hillsboro, including at a new intermodal transit facility to be built in 2009.
The charging stations, available for public use, are part of the city’s large-scale sustainability and green movement. Hillsboro is located 15 miles outside of Portland and is the home to more than 90,000 residents.
Coulomb Technologies has developed the charging stations for municipalities, utilities, green office buildings and parking garages to allow consumers to charge their electric vehicles wherever they live, work and shop. Consumers subscribe to the ChargePoint Network and receive a ChargePoint Smart Card that allows them to charge their car at any charging station worldwide. The ChargePoint Network enabled charging stations provide:
- A revenue stream to pay for electricity, capital equipment and maintenance;
- The ability for drivers to find unoccupied charging stations via web-enabled cell phones;
- Notification by SMS Text or email when charging is complete;
- Authenticated access to eliminate energy theft;
- Authorized energizing for safety;
- Remote monitoring and diagnostics for superior quality of service; and
- Smart Grid integration for utility load management with future V2G capabilities.

Twitter headlines
"A revenue stream to pay for electricity" ya right!
2 kWH at 13 cents a kWH (average)for a total of 26 cents of electricity. It costs 10 times that to bill me. It's more like a way to bilk me out of $35 dollars a month whether or not I use the service. Or charge me $5.95 to park at a garage that is free to everyone else.
I wont go into the mistake in EV designs that is being made that will cause major expenses to parking lot owners. It seems simple but will leave EVSE and the public open to hazards.
