Saab provided initial information on its new 9-5 sedan, which will have its world debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The new sedan is slated to go on sale in 2010.
The all-turbo powertrain line-up is the broadest ever offered by Saab, carrying forward Saab’s rightsizing engine strategy through the development of efficient four-cylinder turbo engines. There is a choice of three fuels: gasoline, diesel and E85 bioethanol. A four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo diesel with six-speed manual transmission diesel offers CO2 emissions as low as 139 g/km and fuel consumption of 5.3 L/100km (44.4 mpg US).
In addition to the 160 hp (118 kW) diesel, the 9-5 offers a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine develops 220 hp (162 kW) . A top-of-the-line 2.8 V6 turbo, generating 300 hp (221 kW) and 400 N·m (295 lb-ft) of torque, is offered exclusively with Saab XWD.
Shortly after launch, a 1.6-liter gasoline turbo with 180 hp (134 kW) will be introduced, together with a 2.0-liter BioPower E85 engine. All transmissions (manual and automatic) will be six-speed.
Saab XWD, the all-wheel-drive system already available on the Saab 9-3, is offered at launch with the 2.0-liter turbo and 2.8 V6 turbo engines with further applications due in the future. Available throughout the range are: adaptive chassis control, with driver settings selected through Saab DriveSense; Bi-Xenon Smart Beam adaptive headlights and adaptive cruise control. Three different suspension layouts are fitted according to engine power and all are available with a sport chassis setting.
More information on the new 9-5 will be released at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
