4 November 2009

Volkswagen of America, Inc. reported October 2009 sales of 17,037 total units, representing a 7.2% (by volume) increase over October 2008. The Jetta, consistently Volkswagen’s top selling model, posted a 25% increase over October 2008 with 9,076 unit sales; Jetta TDI diesel sales accounted for 40% of total Jetta sedan and SportWagen sales, while sales of all TDI models accounted for 24% (4,008 units) of total October sales.

The breakout of TDI sales for October:

  • Jetta Sedan TDI: 1,839 units (26% of Jetta Sedan sales)
  • Jetta SportWagen TDI: 1,819 units (90% of Sportwagen sales)
  • Touareg TDI: 234 units (45% of Touareg sales)
  • Golf TDI: 116 units (19% of Rabbit/Golf sales)

We’re extremely pleased with our October sales results. Our clean diesel TDI models continue to gain momentum in the market place, and the Golf and Touareg TDIs are welcome editions to our model lineup.

Great news, 'up 7.2%', but I notice the Prius sales are 'up 10.3%'. From the Toyota October sales release:

"The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid posted October sales of 13,496 units, up 10.3 percent over the year-ago month."
