HUMMER H3 and H3T Updated With New Flex-Fuel V8

6 November 2009

HUMMER has updated the 2010 HUMMER H3 and H3T midsize all-terrain vehicles with an available E85 Flex Fuel capable 5.3L V8 engine. HUMMER has committed to offer a biofuel powertrain in all body styles by 2010.

The new 5.3L V8 Flex Fuel engine is standard in all 2010 Alpha series models and is a member of GM’s small-block V-8 family. (Other variants of the 5.3L V8 VVT engine are applied in a number of GM trucks.) It is rated at 300 hp (224 kW) and 320 lb-ft (434 N·m) of torque. An aluminum cylinder block is used with the H3 Alpha’s engine, which helps reduce overall mass and maintains a more desirable front-to-rear weight balance.

A Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission is paired with the 5.3L engine. Flat towing is enabled on all H3 and H3T models.

In October, General Motors and Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co., Ltd (Tengzhong) entered into a definitive agreement that will allow Tengzhong to acquire GM’s HUMMER brand. (Earlier post.)

How long will the name Hummer and large V-8's remain?

Does this mean the Pentagon has plans to "Liberate" Iowa?

It does not cost much to allow a vehicle to use methanol, ethanol or mixtures with gasoline. That would be a truly flex fuel. Diesel should become the only vehicle fuel. With a capability to use propane, methanol and ethanol as the main fuel and diesel for ignition, we can have a highly efficient vehicle. ..HG..

So GM sells its biggest gas guzzler to the biggest polluting country. Okay.
