BorgWarner Opens New Technical Center in Shanghai

BorgWarner officially opened a new technical center in Zizhu Science Park in Shanghai, China. By 2012, the facility will be the largest in BorgWarner’s network of global technical centers and is expected to employ about 400 people. Employees at the center will collaborate on engine and drivetrain product research and development, application engineering, and country management functions.

Products include turbochargers, DualTronic modules, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves, air pumps, timing chains, fans and fan drives, water pumps, ignition systems, transmission solenoids and controls, friction plates, and all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive systems.

In addition, the BorgWarner China Technical Center plans to support technology growth for future generations of engineers. In close collaboration with the University of Michigan and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute Internship program, the BorgWarner China Technical Center will offer Chinese engineering students the opportunity to work on real-world projects while developing a pipeline of potential talent to support BorgWarner’s growing business.

BorgWarner entered the Chinese marketplace in 1993 with a joint venture to supply transmission products. Today, in addition to China Technical Center newly opened in Shanghai, BorgWarner has operation locations in Shanghai, Beijing, Ningbo and Dalian with four joint ventures and one wholly-owned foreign entity (WOFE).
