Report: Denso to produce engine control units in Brazil
12 August 2012
The Nikkei reports Denso Corp. will begin production of engine control units (ECUs) in Brazil in September, becoming the first company to make ECUs for cars in South America.
Denso will supply the ECUs to Toyota.
Denso already has an ECU-related facility in the northern Brazilian city of Manaus, which it built at a cost of 400 million yen. In addition to Toyota, Denso aims to supply ECUs made in Brazil to other Japanese automakers, including Nissan Motor Co., which plans to bring a new plant online in the South American country in 2014.
