Getrag and Dongfeng to establish JV in China; six-speed DCT first out
22 October 2012
Getrag and Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. signed an agreement to establish a joint venture in China. The new company, Dongfeng Getrag Transmission Co., Ltd., is held by both partners in equal interests and will develop and produce transmissions for Dongfeng’s passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. For this purpose, Getrag and Dongfeng are going to set up a new transmission engineering and production facility in China, expected to start production in late 2015.
First product of Dongfeng Getrag Transmission Co., Ltd. will be an all-new six-speed dual clutch transmission, named 6DCT150, and provided by the joint venture for the Chinese market. Dual clutch transmissions combine the convenience of a conventional automatic transmission with the direct response characteristics and high degree of efficiency of a manual transmission, while achieving a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The 6DCT150 has a very compact packaging and is designed for front-transverse installation in the city car segment and the compact vehicle segment. Getrag is among the top-providers of leading-edge dual clutch transmission technology around the globe. Its 6DCT250 dual clutch transmission recently crossed the threshold of 1,000,000 units produced.
