Kia unveils Cross GT hybrid concept at Chicago show
7 February 2013
Kia Motors America (KMA) unveiled the Cross GT concept at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. Purely conceptual, the Cross GT reveals Kia’s intentions for the possible offer of a larger premium CUV than the current Sorento.

Backing the V6 is an evolution of Kia’s parallel hybrid system, a pancake-shaped electric motor sandwiched between a 3.8-liter V6 and 8-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor is neatly packaged under the rear floor.
Combined, the V6 and electric motor produce 500 lb-ft (678 N·m ) of torque and 400 horsepower (298 kW), with an all-electric range of 20 miles (32 km). The concept, notes James Hope, Product Communications, Kia Motors America, “is not a plug-in. The concept is just that, a concept.”

I do not understand. If it's not a plug-in, how can it have an all electric range of 20 miles ? To have an all electric range a car has to be a plug-in. Am I missing something ?
Otherwise, this car really looks very cool and seems like it would be very advanced as well as fuel efficient. Also it happens to exactly represent what I am looking for in cars these days. So, I strongly hope it will make its way into production. I already own a Kia Sorento, and think Kia makes great cars.

Another thing I do not understand. Why a 6 cylinder engine, as opposed to a 4 cylinder ? 4 cylinders seemingly contribute more towards fuel efficiency.

It is not a plug in hybrid car because it is not a car.
Nor is it an SUV nor a CUV.
It's a concept.

"..Kia’s parallel hybrid system", like a standard Prius.
