Musk says Tesla making significant investments in Germany: Superchargers, service centers and free tuning for better Autobahn performance

Elon Musk, co-founder and CEO of Tesla Motors announced that his company will make “a significant investment” in Germany, focused on expanding the Supercharger network, expanding the number of service centers, and high-speed tuning for the Model S for improved performance on the Autobahn.
Deliveries of Model S in Europe started this summer. Citing data from Germany’s Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), a report in the International Business Times noted that Tesla had sold 98 Model S units in August and September. lagging sales of other EVs in the country. This performance is in contrast to Norway, where the Model S was the best selling vehicle of any model last month, and in the Netherlands, the car’s second-strongest Northern European market.
Superchargers. Within the next month, Tesla will begin construction on Supercharger stations in locations to energize the corridors between Munich and Stuttgart, Munich and Zurich, Switzerland, and Cologne and Frankfurt. Tesla plans for the network in Germany to expand quickly to include routes between Frankfurt and Stuttgart and Stuttgart and Zurich.
By the end of March 2014, more than 50% of Germany will be covered by Tesla’s Supercharger network, with 100% of the country covered by the middle of the year, according to the company’s plans.
By the end of 2014, Germany will have more Superchargers per capita than any other country, according to Tesla. In addition, all Supercharger stations installed in Germany will be power upgraded to 135 kW to facilitate even faster free charging for long distance travel. Tesla emphasized that this network will be open to German and other auto manufacturers that design cars able to be charged at 135 kW.

High-speed tuning. Free optional high speed tuning for Model S in Germany will optimize it for driving on the Autobahn. This custom tuning will be available to all customers in Germany, including retrofitting Model S that have already been delivered and are on the road.
