Reading Group highlights benefits of aluminum truck bodies

Vocational truck equipment provider The Reading Group has issued an infographic highlighting some of the benefits of aluminum truck bodies. Reading has a strong history of working with aluminum, and was the first service body manufacturer to produce an aluminum truck body—more than 33 years ago.

Using aluminum over other composite metals in the construction of service bodies makes for a cleaner production process and transfers external costs into a benefit Reading says.

A local manufacturer built a large fleet of aluminium city buses in the 1950s. They were 4+ tonnes lighter and lasted 20+ years but could not compete with the strong GM $$ and steel bus lobby.

Some 65+ years latter, we are giving Volvo Canada $$$M to design and build aluminum diesel-hybrid and aluminum electric city buses.

They 4 to 6 tonnes possible reduction in body weight would offset the extra battery (or FC) weight and more.
