Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivers 3.56 million vehicles in period to July; led by Asia-Pacific and W. Europe
The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 3.56 (January-July 2013: 3.43; +3.8%) million vehicles in the first seven months of the year. Deliveries grew by 4.0% in July, with the brand handing over 491,600 (July 2013: 472,800) vehicles to customers in that month. The Asia-Pacific region was the top market, followed by Western Europe.
The brand reported a substantial 16.2% increase in deliveries in the Asia-Pacific region from January to July, handing over 1.72 (1.48) million vehicles to customers there, of which 1.60 (1.36; +17.9%) million units were delivered in China (incl. Hong Kong), the largest single market. China alone thus accounts for 45% of the sales this year.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 1.00 (0.98; +2.9%) million vehicles on the overall European market from January to July, of which 517,200 (492,400; +5.0%) were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany). The home market of Germany also saw deliveries rise, with 340,700 (328,400; +3.7%) customers taking possession of a new Volkswagen in the period to July.
In contrast, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand recorded a slight decrease in deliveries in Central and Eastern Europe, where 146,300 (154,900; -5.6%) vehicles were handed over to customers. The company delivered 76,400 (90,600; -15.7%) units in Russia.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 333,400 (362,300; -8.0%) vehicles in the North America region, of which 209,700 (242,600; -13.6%) new models were handed over to their owners in the United States. In the South America region, deliveries for the period to July fell by 20.1% to 372,300 (465,700) units, of which 301,800 (355,200; -15.0%) were handed over in Brazil.
