Iraqi Oil Pipeline Sabotage

Agence France Presse reports (via the Daily Star in Lebanon) on sabotage to one of the two feeder pipelines to Basra’s off-shore oil terminal, one of two serving the southern oil fields in Iraq. (Reuters report via DeepikaGlobal.com.)

Here is a list of 87 different attacks on Iraqi pipelines, oil installations and oil personnel since June 2003. That works out to 1.8 attacks per week.

The persistence of the attacks on the oil infrastructure in Iraq, combined with the recent terror killings in Yanbu in Saudi Arabia contribute to the market’s nervousness over oil supply -- and hence higher prices.
