Biodiesel Notes

The Baltic Times. Over half the public transport vehicles in Vilnius, Lithuania run on biodiesel. According to a company official, older buses - Soviet-made Ikaruses - were the first to be adapted to the new fuel, while the 30 Volvos obtained in recent years will be next. A total of 136 buses out of 210 that operated on Vilnius streets on Aug. 13 ran on biofuel, Arturas Zuokas, mayor of Vilnius, said at a news conference on Aug. 13.

The Ann Arbor News. Ann Arbor will soon have its first two public biodiesel stations at local Meijer stores. There are an estimated 950 alternative-fuel vehicles in Ann Arbor, mostly run on biodiesel and ethanol. The only other biodiesel filling stations in southeastern Michigan are in Manchester and Detroit. There are also about 150 city-owned biodiesel vehicles that get fuel from city-operated stations, which are not open to the public. The city uses B-20 biodiesel, which is 80% regular diesel, 20% biodiesel blend.

Wisconsin Ag Connection. A new national public opinion survey of adults shows 89 percent of Americans think it is important for Congress to pass a biodiesel tax incentive to make American-made biodiesel more cost competitive with regular diesel fuel. The survey showed strong support for biodiesel as a way to help reduce U.S. dependence on foreign sources of oil and to provide potential health benefits to consumers.
