School Buses Running B20

Herald Sun. The fleet of 120 school buses in Chatham County, NC, is running on B20 (80% petroleum diesel, 20% biodiesel.)

“We’re excited to be part of an early initiative on this,” [Beth Snider, spokeswoman for the Chatham schools] said. “We always want to do anything we can to help improve the environment.”

Funding comes from a $25,000 grant from Triangle Clean Cities, a coalition advocating alternative fuel vehicles as a way to improve the environment and a matching grant from the Department of Public Instruction. The biodiesel comes from Pittsboro-based Piedmont Biofuels, a coop which also happens to be the source of the Energy Blog. The blog provides insight into the process—and some of the politics—of building a biofuels supplier.
