Imperial $500M Retrofit for ULSD
15 October 2004
Toronto Star. Imperial Oil, Canada’s largest refiner (70% owned by ExxonMobil), is investing some $500 million to retrofit its four major refineries for the production of ultra low-sulfur diesel (ULSD).
Imperial spent more than $600 million on those refineries on a retrofit to reduce the sulfur content of its gasoline by more than 90%, down to 30 ppm.
Federal [Canadian] regulations require the sulphur content in diesel fuel for cars and trucks to be cut to 15 parts per million by June 1, 2006. The company said it will meet the new environmental standard in time for the introduction of 2007 model vehicles whose engines can burn ultra low-sulphur diesel.
