CNG for Foothill Transit

Foothill Transit, the primary public transit operator in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys in Southern California, begins replacing 75 retiring diesel buses this month with new CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) models. (Pasadena Star.)

Foothill Transit runs a fleet of 306 vehicles; 117 (38%) of them already are 40-foot Orion CNG models. (Orion is part of DaimlerChrysler.) The 75 retiring models come from the pool of 107 40-foot diesel Gillig Phantoms. The addition of the 75 CNG models brings the fleet’s mix to 63% CNG. Foothill Transit plans to make that 100% by 2010.

Comments

Mr. E. Codiesel

ALL CASES WHERE MEDIUM OR HEAVY DUTY DIESEL ENGINES ARE REPLACED BY LPG VEHICLES LEAD TO EITHER INCREASED ENERGY USE OR INCREASES IN EMISSIONS OF CO2-EQUIVALENT GREENHOUSE GAS!!! CNG ALSO HAS SIGNIFICANT EMISSION DISADVANTAGES

ADDITIONALLY THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH P.A.H. EMISSIONS WITH GASEOUS MIX FUELS SUCH AS GENERAL LPG AND CNG.
