Malaysia Investing in Three Palm-Oil Biodiesel Plants

Bernama. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will invest RM60 million (US$16 million) on three palm-oil biodiesel plants, each with an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes (about 18.4 million gallons US, or 70 million liters).

The three plants, to be operated on a 50:50 joint venture basis with three local partners, are expected to commence operations within the next 12 months. Ten companies responded to MPOB’s tender for the biodiesel plants from which the board selected three partners.

MPOB director general Tan Sri Dr Yusof Basiron said the partners selected already had production infrastructure in place, precluding the need for construction of facilities. Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui said the earlier plan was just to have a pilot plant but given the higher demand and interest for bio-diesel fuel the plan was changed to have three plants.

The biodiesel produced from these three plants will be targeted for export. Two of the plants would be in Port Klang and the third in Pasir Gudang, Johor—both port cities.

a good step for Malaysia! And a better way to utilize palm oil production in the country! The the nation to the world to the environment.
