The XEBRA EV |
ZAP is providing a ZAP XEBRA electric vehicle (earlier post) as the grand prize for the Scientific American Innovations People’s Choice Award drawing at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week in Las Vegas.
Voting at the show for one’s favorite Innovations 2006 product automatically registers the voter in a drawing to win the XEBRA three-wheeler. The Scientific American Innovations People’s Choice Award—and the winner of the car—will be announced at an awards ceremony.
The Chinese-made XEBRA seats four and has a range of up to 40 miles (65 kilometers) and a top speed of 40 mph (65 km/h). It uses a DC motor powered by a lead-acid battery pack.
ZAP is displaying two XEBRAs at CES.
Lead acid batteries? They could have at least used NiMh cells. It is 2006. When is someone going to develop an electric vehicle that uses lithium ion nano cells?

If you are going to make a three-wheeler, better put two wheels in front. Either that or don't brake while you turn.

OK why cant anyone take a SL-1 Saturn body which is very light (spaceframe and plastic panels)
seats 4.
Stick LiIon batteries in the big trunk and
AC or DC motors on the wheels?

That is exactly what I thought. Saturn is just a perfect choice.
Answer could be simple. Rick Wagner and alike make their money in stocks, not by salaries within companies where they work. Why bother with EV when you can sell short stock (not personally of course)of
GM and send a company to death spiral. The more it goes down the richer you are.Of course its all not prooven but I see it as a simple way of making money just because its a no brainer. Only owners of fully private companies are interested in their companies. The rest is BS, they make their money why do they need to care what cars drive america?

A couple sites for Saturns that have been converted to electric power:

http://www.penn-partners.org/evteam/saturn.htm
Seems there's already a bit of a DIY movement in this regard.

Dear Justin,
I am not sure why i should try what you are saying, considering you dont know the difference between the words "there" and "their."
As far as Xebra being a three wheeler, it seems like some of you don't realize that it is classified as a motorcycle, not a car.
As far a the saturn is concerned, instead of complaining, why dont you do that, and patent it. You'll be very rich.
