Bosch Launches Tri-Fuel Injection System

The core NG-Motronic system with dual injectors for liquid (gasoline/ethanol) and gaseous (CNG) fuels. |
Bosch has launched its NG Motronic flexible engine management system—a fuel injection system that supports the transparent switching between gasoline, ethanol or compressed natural gas. Bosch announced the core NG Motronic gasoline-CNG system last fall. (Earlier post.)
The flexible management system incorporates Bosch’s ethanol-gasoline flex-fuel injection capabilities (earlier post), creating the tri-fuel system.
Using the Bosch NG-Motronic flexible engine management system, cars can switch between fuels along the way without interrupting the performance of the combustion engine.
The Bosch Motronic Flex-Fuel system measures the oxygen content in the exhaust fumes to determine the alcohol content in the liquid fuel. The engine management software adjusts ignition and injection based on the actual fuel mix in the tank.
Integrated into the same engine control unit (ECU) is the logic for natural gas management. The tri-fuel system also uses Bosch’s new Natural Gas Injector (NGI 2). The injector has a specific lining and is especially suited for operation with oil-free gas. The external dimensions of the NGI 2 correspond to conventional gasoline injectors from Bosch and can thus be integrated into existing systems without problems.
Who needs to wait for a plug-in hybrid vehicle which will probably never come. The batteries just cost too much to be practical and the drive systems only run on battery power up to 30 miles per hour.
I'd rather have this tri-fuel system with a home refueler. Like PHIL.

Wouldn't this be the ultimate set-up for running waste vegetable oil or other fuels in a diesel. If the WVO clogs up for temperature or other reasons you could easily switch back to diesel fuel and keep on trucking.
