Bunge and Investment Group Create Joint Venture Biodiesel Company
21 September 2006
Bunge North America, the North American operating arm of global agribusiness company Bunge Limited, and Biodiesel Investment Group have created Biofuels Company of America (BCA), a joint venture that will build a 45-million gallon per year biodiesel plant adjacent to Bunge’s soybean processing facility in Danville, Ill.
Work on the site is already under way with plans for the plant to be operational in the first quarter of 2008.
Bunge will provide 100% of the feedstock for the new plant. Producing 45 million gallons of biodiesel will use the equivalent of 30 million bushels of soybeans.
In August, Bunge and DuPont announced the expansion of their three-year soy collaboration beyond food and nutrition products to include biofuels, industrial applications and other opportunities. (Earlier post.)
Earlier in September, Bunge North America announced that it will partner with Carlyle/Riverstone Renewable Energy Infrastructure Fund to build ethanol plants resulting in ultimate production capacity of several hundred million-gallons-per-year by the end of 2008. (Earlier post.)
