Beijing Buses to Use Danish Dosers for Urea SCR Systems
14 August 2007
Grundfos NoNOx A/S and the largest Chinese engine manufacturer, Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited, have entered into an agreement that makes Grundfos the supplier of urea dosing technology for approximately 450 buses that are to run in Beijing in 2008.
Yuchai is the largest Chinese engine manufacturer of engines for heavy diesel vehicles.
The agreement is of great importance to both Grundfos and Chinese Yuchai. The order indicates clearly that environmental technology has a big market potential in China. The total Chinese diesel engine market is bigger than the markets in USA and Europe altogether.
—Morten Winther, Sales and Business development manager of Grundfos NoNOx A/S
Beijing will introduce Euro 4 emission standards in 2008, two years earlier than in the rest of China. Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited will be the first Chinese engine manufacturer which observes the Euro 4 emission level.

Grundfos is one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers. The Grundfos NoNOx product range is based on the company’s Digital Dosing Pump technology, which allows very precise dosing all over a wide range of flow. This leads to high NOx conversion with low risk of ammonia slip for the SCR system.
Grundfos developed an innovative hydraulic circuit, where the urea doser is assisted by the vehicle air supply to bring the dosed volume of urea to the injection nozzle in the exhaust system and also to atomize the urea in the nozzle.
As urea freezes at –11°C, an internal automatic heater was added to allow correct operation at extreme low temperatures (down to –40°C). This function can be adapted to other reactants with different freezing points.
An electronic controller manages the whole UDS via CAN signals (standard automotive communication bus). In 2006, Cummins also selected Grundfos NoNOx A/S as a supplier.
