Wirtschaftswoche reported that Volkswagen will end its participation in the Bluetec Alliance with DaimlerChrysler begun last year for the development and marketing in the US of Tier 2 Bin 5 diesels (earlier post) and will return to its own TDI branding for diesels.
The report said that the company realized that the Bluetec brand is foremost associated with Mercedes. VW now wants to continue to push its own TDI brand.
A Volkswagen spokesperson later confirmed the report.
BMW had earlier decided not to participate in the Bluetec Alliance for its own coming diesel work in the US. (Earlier post.)
